    How «Confessions of a Journalist» was born
    Fifteen years ago...

    In the beginnig of '91, the then president of the Cultural Educational Entertainment & Athletic Association of the Greek Post Office Staff (ELTA), Manolis Drenakis, (who a few years later became the General Manager of ELTA), asked the journalist and author Dimitris Xalivelakis: to teach selflessly the members of the Association during six long seminars about journalism and especially about the Mass Media. The request was accepted...
    1. The six seminars took place from the 2nd until the 21st of May '91. The following newspapers wrote in titles regarding the seminars ( in absolute chronological order): * "Seminars at ELTA" ("Apogevmatini",4/1/1991 &25/4/1991). * "About Journalism " ("Eleftheros", 4/1/1991 & 25/4/1991). * "Journalism in Greece" (" Epikerotita", 4/1/1991 & 25/4/1991). * "Seminars for the Post Office Staff" ("Niki, 4/1/1991). * "Journalistic concerns of the Post Office Staff..." ("Kathimerini, 5/1/1991 & 2/5/1991) *" The Post Office Staff as journalists" ("Express, 24/1/1991 & 2/5/1991). * "About Journalism" ("Ethnos, 27/4/1991). *"Journalism during 1992" (" Rizospastis" 27/4/1991).
    2. The first seminar was just completed and it lasted four hours. Manolis Drenakis sugested to Dimitris Xalivelakis to write a book based on the same title, with the materials of the seminars and with the signature of the Association. It was agreed...
    3. The book 'The Confession of a Journalist' was published (190 pages) in June of 1992 through the expense outcome of the association in 3000 copies, which sold out in ashort amount of time.
    4. The members of D.S of PEPSASE-ELTA in a note of the book (p.11) report the following: " The labor of a tireless 'worker' of journalism. By the distinguished journalist Dimitris Xalivelakis that besides his selfless offer during the seminars, accepted freely to the concession of his (writer's) rights for this edition. The least we could do was to give this opportunity to others through this book so that they can have a 'taste' of the outselling we have been absorbing the past few weeks from Dimitris Xalivelakis.
    5. The journalist and writer Vasilis A.Labropoulos, president at the time of the Disciplinary Council of the First Degree at ESHEA mention's in the book's prologue the following: Titled: 'the good old wine...' (p.13): " The author of this book, whose content is the product of the seminars, belongs to the generation of the journalists that built their personalities from the root of all the struggles and the anguish. He is a worthy and experienced journalist. In a few words Dimitris is what every young journalist would like to become in his career.
    6. The journalist and writer Nikos Simos, president at the time of Greek Literators Association, with the title 'Like a farewell to the tireless worker of the ink and quilt and perseverant soldier of the struggling journalism Dimitri Xalivelakis.' Writes the following (p.15). "The reader of the book 'The confession of a journalist' will find 'essentials' of the writer's long lived experience in journalism". * "He will find interesting texts that can be characterized as simple and graceful so that they are comprehensible to people that are not from the journalistic field".

      Impressive was the demonstration that was actualized on the 23rd of July 1992 from 12- 3p.m. at the Assembly Room of ESHEA, that was nobly admitted for the presentation of the book 'The Confession of a Journalist' by journalist and literator Dimitris Xalivelakis for the members of the Association PEPSASE ELTA.
